THE HOTLINE TO CONTACT ALLAH - BEST TIMES TO SUPPLICATE

THE HOTLINE TO CONTACT ALLAH - BEST TIMES TO SUPPLICATE

It was narrated from Abu Sa’eed that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There is no Muslim who does not offer any du’aa’ in which there is no sin or severing of family ties but Allaah will give him one of three things in return: either He will answer his du’aa’ sooner, or he will store it up for him in the Hereafter, or He will divert an equivalent evil away from him because of it.” They said: “We will say a lot of du’aa’.” He said: “Allaah is more generous.” Narrated by Ahmad (10749), classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb wa’l-Tarheeb (1633).

Whosoever does not supplicate to Allah, He will be angry with Him." [Saheeh Jaami`as-Sagheer #2414]

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «الدُّعَاءُ مُخُّ العِبَادَةِ»

Narrated Anas (Ra): The Prophet (SAW) said: “Supplication is the Pith (essence) of worship.” (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 3371, Da'eef al Jaami' 3003)

Narrated Abu Hurairah (Ra): The Prophet (SAW) said: “Nothing is more honorable (most liked ) before Allah (SWT) than Supplication .”
(At-Tirmidhi, Ibn Hibban and Al-Hakim and as suyooti graded it Sahih, and Albani graded it Hasan)

* Aadam عليه وسلم made du`aa when he was removed from the Jannah.

* Nooh عليه السلام made du`aa when he saw that the people will not benefit any further from his call.

* Ibraaheem and Islaam`eel عليهم السلام made du`aa when they were building the Ka`bah.

* Yaqoob عليه السلام made du`aa when trials got severe for him.

* Yusuf عليه السلام made du`aa when then the wife of his master tried to seduce him.

* Ayyoob عليه السلام made du`aa for the cure for his sickness.

* Yunus عليه السلام made du`aa from the belly of the whale.

* Moosaa عليه السلام made du`aa when the he killed the man was being pursued the Egyptians.

* `Eesaa عليه السلام made du`aa to Allaah to provide them food from the Heavens.

BUT THE BIGGEST EXAMPLE:

* The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم made du`aa in the battle of Badr before meeting the enemies

There are certain times dua (supplication) is more likely to be accepted by Allah (SWT) as mentioned by Prophet (SAW). These certain times/hour are as follows:

1. The Last Third Of The Night

Abu Hurairah (RadhiAllaahu Anhu) narrates the Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam) said, “Our lord descends to the heavens of this earth at the third part of every night and says, “Who is there who supplicates so that I may accept it? Who asks me so that I may give him? Who seeks forgiveness from me so that I may forgive him.”

[Ref: Saheeh Bukhaari (no.1145) with Fath ul-Baaree (11/133), Saheeh Muslim (no.758), Tirmidhee (no.446) and Saheeh Jaam’e (2/1357)]

In another narration Amr bin Absah (RadhiAllaahu Anhu) narrates the Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam) said, “Allaah is close to his servant in the last part of the night, if you are capable then supplicate and be from amongst those who remember him at that time.”

[Ref: Nasaa’ee, Tirmidhee (no.3579), Saheeh Ibn Khuzaimah and Mustadrak al-Haakim, refer to Saheeh al-Jaam’e (1/259 no.1173), Mishkaat (no.1229), Saheeh al-Adhkaar (pg.73) Shaikh al-Albaanee said Saheeh]

2. A PARTICULAR PERIOD EVERY NIGHT

Jaabir ibn Abdullaah (RadhiAllaahu Anhuma) narrates the Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam) said, “There is a period every night in which a Muslims asks Allaah for goodness in this world and in the hereafter then Allaah definitely fulfils it and this period occurs every night.”

[Ref: Saheeh Muslim and Musnad Ahmad, refer to Saheeh Jaam’e as-Sagheer 1/427]

3. Between Adhan and Iqamah

Anas (RA) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said: 'A supplication made between the Adhan and Iqama is not rejected.'The companions asked, “what shall we ask for Oh Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam).” He (the Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam)) said, “Ask Allaah for wellness/good health in his world and in the hereafter.

[Ref: Ahmad, abu Dawud #521, at-Tirmidhi #212, Sahih al-Jami #3408, Sahih Al Jaami 1/641, Sahih Tirmidhi no. 175, 244, Musnad Ahmad (3/119), Sahih an-Nasai and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (sound), Sahih - Irwa ul ghaleel 224,Takhreej al-Kalim at-Tayyab no.73 of al-Arnaa’oot and Saheeh al-Adhkaar pg.55 of Imaam Nawawee]

A mursal report from Makhool mentions the Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam) said, “A supplication is accepted during the time of standing in battle for war, at the time of Iqaamah and whilst it is raining.”

[Ref: Musnad Shaafi’ee and Ma’arifus Sunan Wal-Aathaar of Imaam Baihaqee, refer to Saheeh al-Jaam’e 1/235, this report reaches the level of Hasan due to supporting narrations refer to Shaikh al-Albaanee’s as-Saheehah no.1469]

4. An Hour On Friday

Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA): Allah’s Messenger (SAW) talked about Friday and said: 'There is an hour on Friday and if a Muslim gets it while offering Salat (prayer) and asks something from Allah (SWT), then Allah (SWT) will definitely meet his demand.' And he (the Prophet (SAW) pointed out the shortness of that particular time with his hands.

[Ref: Sahih al-Bukhari 934, 5294, Sahih Muslim 852, Ibn Maja 1082, Saheeh Al Adhkar page 53]

This period is not exactly known but Imaam Ahmad said, “We find from most of the ahadeeth about this period and we hope that our dua are answered, is after the Asr prayer or we hope it is after the sun reaches its zenith ie jumu’ah time.”(Sunan Tirmidhee 2/361 cited from Saheeh al-Adhkaar pg.54-55)

The Scholars have differed as to the exact time of this period due to the differing and various narrations that mention this period which led Haafidh Ibn Hajr as citing 40 various statements of the Scholars pertaining to this period (Fath ul-Baaree 3/82). Hence duas should be made after jumu’ah till the end of the day, as some of the scholars have said. (Fatwaa Islaamiyyah 1/400)

5. While Drinking Zamzam Water

Jaber (RA) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said: 'Zamzam water is for what it is drunk for.'

[Ref: Ahmad 3: 357 and Ibn Majah #3062, Sahih Ibn Majah 2484].

This means that when you drink Zamzam water you may ask Allah (SWT) for anything you like to gain or benefit from this water such as healing from illness.... etc.

6. When Waking Up suddenly at Night

Mu’adh (RadhiAllaahu Anhu) narrates the Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam) said, “The Muslims goes to sleep whilst making dhikr of Allaah and then he wakes up at anytime during the night and then asks Allaah for any good from this world or the hereafter then Allaah grants him his request.”

[Ref: Abu Dawood, Ibn Maajah, Musnad Ahmad, and Tayalisee. Refer to Saheeh al-Jaam’e 2/1003, Saheeh at-Targheeb no.597, Mishkaat no.1215)

Ubaadah ibn Saamit (RadhiAllaahu Anhu) narrates the Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam) said, “Whoever wakes up whilst sleeping he should recites the following la ilaaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lahu lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu, wa huwa a’la kulli shay’in qadeer alhamdulillahi wa subhanallahi, wa la ilaha illallah, wallaahu akbar wa laa hawla wa laa quwata. And then he says Allaahumag-firlee and seeks forgiveness from Allaah or he supplicates, his dua is accepted and he gets up and makes wudhu and prays then his prayer will also be accepted.”

[Ref: Bukhaari, Abu Dawood, Tirmidhee, Saheeh al-Kalim at-Tayyab]

7. BEFORE AND AFTER ENDING THE OBLIGATORY SALAH:

According to the hadeeth of Abu Umaamah, it was said: “O Messenger of Allaah, which du’aa’ is heard?” He said: “In the last third of the night, and following the prescribed prayers.” [Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 3499; classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi. ]

There was some difference of scholarly opinion concerning the phrase dabr al-salawaat al-maktoobah (“following the prescribed prayers”) – does it mean before the salaam or afterwards?

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah and his student Ibn al-Qayyim were of the view that it is before the salaam. Ibn Taymiyah said: “The word dabr refers to something that is part of a thing, like dabr al-haywaan (the hindquarters of an animal).” Zaad al-Ma’aad, 1.305. Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen said: “What has been narrated of du’aa’ following the prayer is before the salaam and what has been narrated of dhikr following the prayer is after the salaam, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“When you have finished As-Salaah (the congregational prayer), remember Allaah standing, sitting down, and (lying down) on your sides” [al-Nisa’ 4:103]

8. The Night Of 'Qadr' (Decree)

This night is the greatest night of the year. This is the night which the almighty Allah (SWT) said about it, "The night of Al-Qadar (Decree) is better than a thousand months.(83 years approx) " [Surah al-Qadr, 97: 3]

Abu Hurairah (RadhiAllaahu Anhu) narrated that the Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam) said: “Whoever stands (in prayer) in Laylatul Qadr while nourishing his faith with self-evaluation, expecting reward from Allah, will have all of his previous sins forgiven.”

[Ref: Bukhaari and Muslim refer to Saheeh al-Jaam’e 2/1100]

Aishah (RadhiAllaahu AnhA) narrates, “I asked Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam), “If I find Laylatul Qadr then what should I do? He (the Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam)) said, recite this Dua.“ALLAAH HUMMA INNAKA A’FUWUN TOHI BUL AFWA FA’AFU ANNI”

[Ref: Ibn Maajah (no.3850), Tirmidhee (no.3513), Mishkaat (no.2091) Allaamah al-Albaanee said Saheeh]

9. During The Rain

Narrated Sahel Ibn Sa'ad (RA): that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: 'Two will not be rejected, Supplication when the Adhan (call of prayer) is being called, and at the time of the rain'.

[Ref: Al-Hakim 2: 114, and Abu Dawud #2540, ibn Majah]

'Seek the response to your du'as when the armies meet, and the prayer is called, and when rain falls'

[Ref: Reported by Imam al-Shafi' in al-Umm, al-Sahihah #1469].

The time of the rain is a time of mercy from Allah (SWT) so, one should take advantage of this time when Allah (SWT) is having mercy on His slaves.

Ustadh Abdus Shakur Brooks mentions :

It is has also been reported by Abu Umāmah (may Allah be pleased
with him) that the Messenger of Allah said:

The Heavens are opened and /duas/ are answered in four cases, when
meeting an army, when it rains, when the iqāmah of prayer is called and when seeing the Kabbah. (Sunan Al-Kubra 3/360)

Imam Al-Baihaqi included this Hadith in his Sunan Al-Kubra under the
chapter heading The Chapter: Seeking To Have Duas Answered When It is Raining.

(3) Imam Shafi reported in his Al-Umm that Makhūl reported that the
Messenger of Allah said:

Seek having your dua answered when meeting an army, during the iqāmah of prayer, and during rain fall.

Imam Shafi stated after reporting this Hadith, “I have learned from more than one person [of knowledge] to seek having /duas/ answered when it is raining” (Al-Umm 1/253)

Mulla Ali Al-Qāri stated that “under the rain” [in this Hadith] means
“during the falling of rain”. (Mirqāt Al-Mafātīh 2/344)

Al-Munāwi stated, “This means that the supplication of a person
under the rain is not rejected (or almost not rejected) because it is a
time in which mercy is descending, especially at the beginning of the

rainy season. (Faid Al-Qadir, Hadith 3566)

10. At the Adhan

Sahl ibn Sa’ad (RadhiAllaahu Anhu) narrates the Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam) said, “The dua is not rejected at 2 times, after the Adhaan and whilst it is raining…..”

[Ref: Abu Dawood, Mustadrak Haakim and Saheeh Ibn Hibbaan. Refer to Saheeh al-Jaam’e (1/590), as-Saheehah (no.1469) Saheeh at-Targheeb (no.266) (2 narrations combined)]

Anas (RadhiAllaahu Anhu) narrates a hadeeth that, “When the call to prayer is made the doors of the heavens are opened and supplications are accepted.”

[Ref: transmitted by Abu Ya’ala, Tayalisee, al-Mukhtarah of Dhiya al-Maqdisee, refer to Saheeh al-Jaam’e 1/203 and as-Saheeheh no.1413]

'Seek the response to your du'as when the armies meet, and the prayer is called, and when rain falls'

[Ref: Reported by Imam al-Shafi' in al-Umm, al-Sahihah #1469]

11. The One Who Is Suffering Injustice and Oppression

The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said to Mua'ad Ibn Jabal (RA), 'Beware of the supplication of the unjustly treated, because there is no shelter or veil between it (the supplication of the one who is suffering injustice) and Allah (SWT)'

[Ref: Sahih Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

The prophet (SAW) declared, 'Three men whose dua is never rejected (by Allah) are: the fasting person until he breaks his fast (in another narration, when he breaks fast), the just ruler and the one who is oppressed.'

[Ref: Ahmad, at-Tirmidhi - Hasan]
In another hadith : The Prophet (SAW) declared: 'Three du'as are surely answered: The du'a of the oppressed, the du'a of the traveler, and the du'a of the father/mother (upon their child)'.

[Ref: Abu Dawud Book 8, Number 1531]

12. The Dua of a Traveler

The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said; Three supplications will not be rejected (by Allah (SWT)), the supplication of the parent for his child, the supplication of the one who is fasting, and the supplication of the traveler.

[Ref: al-Bayhaqi, at-Tirmidhi - Sahih]

13. The Parent's Supplication for and Against their Child

The du’aa’ of a father for his child – i.e., for his benefit – and the du’aa’ of a fasting person during the day of his fast, and the prayer of the traveller. It was narrated in a saheeh report that our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There are three prayers that are not rejected: the prayer of a father for his child, the prayer of the fasting person and the prayer of the traveller.”

[Narrated by al-Bayhaqi; see Saheeh al-Jaami’, 2032; al-Saheehah, 1797. ]

The prayer of a father against his child – i.e., to harm him. According to a saheeh hadeeth: ‘There are three prayers that will be answered: the prayer of one who has been wronged, the prayer of a traveller, and the prayer of a father against his child.”

[Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 1905. See Saheeh al-Adab al-Mufrad, 372.]

14. Dua after praising Allah and giving salaat on the Prophet (SAW) in the tashahhud at the end of salat.

Narrated Faddalah ibn Ubayd (RA): that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: 'When anyone of you makes du'a, let him start by glorifying his Lord and praising Him, then let him send blessings upon the Prophet (s.a.w), then let him pray for whatever he wants'

[Ref: Abu Dawud #1481, at-Tirmidhi #3477]

In another hadith; Baqiy ibn Mukhallid (RA) narrated that that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: 'Every du'a is not responded to until one sends blessings upon the Prophet (s.a.w)'

[Ref: Al-Bayhaqi]

"إن الدعاء موقوف بين السماء والأرض لا يصعد منه شيء حتى تصلي على نبيك صلى الله عليه وسلم

Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “Du’aa’ is detained (stopped) between the heavens and the earth and no part of it is taken up until you send blessings upon your Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).” [Ref: Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 486, Hasan by Shaikh Albaanee in Saheeh at-Tirmidhi 403; Also recorded by Abu Bakr Ibn al-Arabi al Malaki in his Aridat al-Ahwadhi bi-Sharh Sahih al-Tirmidhi 1/472; Al-Mundhari recorded this in Targheeb wa Tarheeb 2/406 grading the hadeeth to be hasan; As-Shawkaani in Tuhfadh al-Zaakareen58; Ibn Katheer in Musnad al-Farooq 1/176 graded this to have a Jayyid Isnaad ]

After a person has finished his tashahhud and before saying the 'salam', supplication at this time is one likely to be responded to.

Ibn Mas'ud narrates: I was once praying, and the Prophet (s.a.w), Abu Bakr and Umar (were all present). When I sat down (in the final tashahhud), I praised Allah, then sent salaam on the Prophet, then started praying for myself. At this, the Prophet (s.a.w) said:'Ask, and you shall be given it! Ask, and you shall be given it!'

[Ref: Al-Tirmidhi #593 - hasan, Mishkat al-Misbah #931]

15. The sincere dua of a Muslim for another Muslim

The prophet (SAW) said: 'There is no believing servant who supplicates for his brother in his absence where the angels do not say, 'the same be for you''

[Ref: Sahih Muslim]

16. Dua on the Day of Arafah

Amr on the authority of his grandfather narrates the Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam) said, “The best dua is the dua on the day of Arafah. The best dua I and the prophets before me made is, “la ilaaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lahu lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu, wa huwa a’la kulli shay’in qadeer.”

[Ref: Tirmidhee (no.3585) Saheeh al-Jaam’e (no.1102) Imaam al-Albanee said Saheeh]

The day of Arafat is the essence and pinnacle of Hajj. On this great and momentous day, millions of worshippers gather together on one plain, from every corner of the world, with only one purpose in mind - to respone to the call of their Creator. During this auspicious day, Allah does not refuse the requests of His worshippers.

17. Dua during the month of Ramadan

Ramadan is month full of many blessings, thus the du'a of Ramadan is a blessed one. This can be inferred from the Prophet (SAW) saying: 'When Ramadan comes, the Doors of Mercy (another narration says Paradise) are opened, and the doors of Hell are closed, and the Shaitans are locked up'
[Sahih al-Bukhari #1899, Muslim #1079 and others]

Abu Sa’eed al-Khudree narrates the Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam) said, “Without doubt Allaah saves people from the fire of hell every day and night in ramadhaan and verily there is a dua for every Muslim in the day and night in the month of ramadhaan that is accepted.”

[Ref: Imaam al-Albaanee said Saheeh Li-Ghayrihi, Saheeh at-Targheeb Wat-Tarheeb (no.1002), Kashf us-Sataar (no.962) of Imaam Bazzaar]

Abu Hurairah (RadhiAllaahu Anhu) narrates the Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam) said, “There are 3 people whose dua are not rejected. (1) The just ruler, (2) The one who fasts until he does iftar and (3) the dua of the oppressed. Allaah will raise their dua on the day of judgement without any clouds and the doors of the skies will be opened and Allaah will say, I swear by my honour I will indeed help you even though it may be a little later.”

[Ref: Tirmidhee (no.3598), Ibn Maajah (no.1752), Ahmad (2/305), Ibn Hibbaan (no.3428)]

18. Dua when the Armies meet

When the Muslim is facing the enemy in battle, at this critical period, the du'a of a worshipper is accepted.

Sahl ibn Sa'd (RA) narrtaed the the Prophet (SAW) said: 'Two duas are never rejected, or rarely rejected: the du'a during the call for prayer, and the du'a during the clamity when the two armies attack each other'

[Ref: Saheeh Abu Dawud #2540, ibn Majah, al-Hakim, Sahih Al Jamee 1/590 no. 3079, Saheeh At Taghreeb 266]

19. When Muslims gather for the purpose of invoking and remembering Allah (Dhikrallah).

The Prophet (SAW) said: If a group of people sit together remembering Allah (such as studying, learning), the angels will circle them, mercy will shroud them, peace will descend onto them and Allah will remember them among those with Him.

[Ref: Sahih Muslim]

The Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam) said, “When a nation gathers and indulges in the dhikr of Allaah the angels encompass them and the mercy of Allaah descends upon them and the tranquillity, then Allaah mentions them amongst what is with him (ie the creation with ie the angels.”

[Ref: Saheeh Muslim, also Saheeh al-Adhkaar pg.57]

20. First Ten days of Dhul-Hijjah

The Prophet (SAW) said: 'There are no days during which good deeds are more beloved to Allah than during these ten days'

[Ref: Sahih al-Bukhai #969 and others]

21. At Midnight

Abu Umamah (RA) said, the Prophet (SAW) was questioned; 'Which du'a is heard (by Allah)?' He answered, 'At midnight and at the end of every obligatory prayer.'

[Ref: Al-Tirmidhi - Hasan]

Uthmaan bin Abee al-Aas ath-Thaqafee (RadhiAllaahu Anhu) narrates the Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam) said, “The doors in the heaven open in the middle of the night and a caller announces is there anyone supplicating that his supplication is accepted? Is there anyone asking for something so that he is given it? Is there anyone under distress so that this is made easy for him? No Muslim will remain who supplicates and his supplication is not answered, except the woman soliciting or the one who forcefully takes money from others.”

[Ref: Silsilah Ahadeeth as-Saheehah 3/62]

22. Dua of people after the death of a person

In a long hadith, Umm Salamah (RA) narrated that the Prophet (SAW) said, when Abu Salamah had just passed away, and had closed his eyes, 'Do not ask for yourselves anything but good, for the angels will say 'Ameen' to all that you ask for. O Allah, forgive Abu Salamah, and raise his ranks among those who are guided.'

[Ref: Muslim, Abu Dawood, Ahmad]

Umm Salamah (RadhiAllaahu Anha) narrates “After the death of Abu Salamah (RadhiAllaahu Anhu) the Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam) went to her and his (ie Abu Salamahs (RadhiAllaahu Anhu) eyes were opened. So he Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam) closed his eyes and said, “When the soul is taken the eyes follow it.” So the household started to scream so he Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam) said, “Do not call up yourself anything except good as whatever you say at that time the angels say Ameen.”

[Ref: Muslim no.920, Abu Dawood no.3118]

23. Dua of the one fasting

24. Dua while breaking the fast

Abu Huraira said the Messenger (PBUH) of Allah (SWT) said: "The supplications of three groups of people's are not rejected; the du'aa (Supplication) of the fasting person when he is breaking his fast, the du'aa of the just Imam and the du'aa of the oppressed."

[Ref: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3598, Ibn Hibbaan 3428, Ibn Maajah , Book 7, Hadith 1824; Ahmad Shaakir in 'Umdatal Tafseer 1/416 pointed out the rightness of this; and declared it Saheeh in Musnad Ahmad 15/189; Imam al Dhahabi supported this in his al-Madhab 3/1272 and 6/3266 via Abu Hurayra (r.a);  al Mundhari in Targheeb wal Tarheeb 2/121; ]

 إِنَّ لِلصَّائِمِ عِنْدَ فِطْرِهِ لَدَعْوَةً مَا تُرَدُّ
It was narrated from ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr bin ‘As that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said:

“When the fasting person breaks his fast, his supplication is not turned back.

[Ibn Maajah, English version : Vol. 1, Book 7, Hadith 1753, al Busayri has classified this as Isnaadu Saheeh in
إتحاف الخيرة المهرة ,  3/102, Ibn Hajar Asqalaani has classified this as Hassan in الفتوحات الربانية, 4/342 , al-Suyuti in Jaami' as-Sagheer 2385; Ibn Mulqin in Tuhfatul Mahtaaj, 2/97; Ibn Uthaymeen has classified this as Haasan in Majmoo' al Fataawa Ibn Uthaymeen 261/20; ]

“Du’aa’ should be made before iftaar (breaking the fast), at Maghrib, because this combines weakness and humility, and because he is still fasting. All of these are means of having one’s du’aa’ answered.  After breaking the fast, one is relaxed and happy, and may become negligent. But there is a hadeeth from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) which, if it is saheeh, shows that the du’aa’ may be made after breaking the fast. It said: ‘Thirst has gone, the veins are moist, and the reward is assured, if Allaah wills.” (Narrated by Abu Dawood; classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh Sunan Abi Dawood, 2066). This can only mean after breaking the fast. Similarly it was narrated that some of the Sahaabah said: “ O Allaah, for You I have fasted and with Your provision I have broken my fast.”

So you may pray to Allaah and say whatever du’aa’ you think is suitable.

[Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Uthaymeen (al-Liqaa’ al-Shahri, 8)]

This is also affirmed by the scholars of Islamweb : http://www.islamweb.net/emainpage/index.php?page=showfatwa&Option=FatwaId&Id=88296

Some scholars have classified the above two ahadeeth as weak, , however even if we consider the general ruling that the dua'a of a fasting person is accepted throughought ramadan, [See: Imaam al-Albaanee said Saheeh Li-Ghayrihi, Saheeh at-Targheeb Wat-Tarheeb (no.1002), Kashf us-Sataar (no.962) of Imaam Bazzaar] so one can still act upon this hadeeth

26. Dua of a righteous son or daughter obedient to his or her parents

as stated in the hadeeth narrated by Muslim (1631): “When the son of Adam dies, all his good deeds come to an end except three: ongoing charity, a righteous son who will pray for him, or beneficial knowledge.”
It is well known in the story narrated in hadith of three men who were trapped by a huge stone in a cave. One of them who was kind to kis parents asked Allah to remove the stone, and his du'a was answered....

Three men, amongst those who came before you, set out until night came and they reached a cave, so they entered it. A rock fell down from the mountain and blocked the entrance of the cave.

They said: 'Nothing will save you from this unless you supplicate to Allah by virtue of a righteous deed you have done.'

Thereupon, one of them said: 'O Allah! I had parents who were old, and I used to offer them milk before any of my children or slaves. One day, I went far away in search of grazing and could not come back until they had slept. When I milked as usual and brought the drink I found them both asleep. I hated to disturb them and also disliked to give milk to my children before them. My children were crying out of hunger at my feet but I awaited with the bowl in my hand for them to wake up. When they awoke at dawn, they drank milk. O Allah! If I did so to seek Your Pleasure, then deliver us from the distress caused by the rock'.

The rock moved slightly but they were unable to escape.

The next said: 'O Allah! I had a cousin whom I loved more than any one else (in another version he said: as a man can love a woman). I wanted to have sexual intercourse with her but she refused. Hard pressed in a year of famine, she approached me. I gave her one hundred and twenty dinars on condition that she would yield herself to me. She agreed and when we got together (for sexual intercourse), she said: Fear Allah and do not break the seal unlawfully. I moved away from her in spite of the fact that I loved her most passionately; and I let her keep the money I had given her. O Allah! If I did that to seek Your Pleasure, then, remove the distress in which we are.'

The rock moved aside a bit further but they were still unable to get out.

The third one said: 'O Allah! I hired some labourers and paid them their wages except one of them departed without taking his due. I invested his money in business and the business prospered greatly. After a long time, he came to me and said: O slave of Allah! Pay me my dues. I said: All that you see is yours - camels, cattle, goats and slaves. He said: O slave of Allah! Do not mock at me. I assured him that I was not joking. So he took all the things and went away. He spared nothing. O Allah! If I did so seeking Your Pleasure, then relieve us of our distress.'

The rock slipped aside and they got out walking freely".

27. Dua after stoning the Jamarat at Hajj

The stoning of the small Shaitan (jamrat sugra), or the middle Shaitan (jamrat wusta) pillars during Hajj. It is narrated that the Prophet (SAW) would stone the small Jamarah (one of the three pillars that is stoned in the last days of Hajj), then face the qiblah, raise his hands, and make du'a for a long time. He would then stone the middle Jamarah and do the same. When he stoned the large Jamarah, he would depart without making any du'a.

[Sahih al-Bukhari #1753 and others]

28. Du'a made inside the Ka'bah

The Ka'bah is a sanctuary that has no comparison in the entire world. The du'a of one who prays inside the hijr is considered as being made inside the ka'bah, as it is part of the house (Baitullah). [This is the semicircle to the right of the Ka'bah if you face the door, opposite to the Yemeni corner and the Black stone wall.]

Usamah ibn Zayd narrated, 'When the Prophet (SAW) entered the House (Ka'bah), he made du'a in all of its corners

[Ref: Muslim 2: 968 and others]

29. Du'a on the mount of Safa or Marwah during Umrah or Hajj

It is narrated that the Prophet (SAW) would make long du'as at Safa and Marwah.

[Ref: Muslim #1218 and others]

30. While reciting Surah al-Fatihah

The Prophet (SAW) said that Allah the Exalted had said: ' I have divided the prayer into two halves between Me and My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks for. When the servant says: Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the universe, Allah the Most High says: My servant has praised Me. And when he (the servant) says: The Most Compassionate, the Merciful, Allah the Most High says: My servant has lauded Me. When he (the servant) says: Master of the Day of Judgment, He remarks: My servant has glorified Me, and sometimes He will say: My servant entrusted (his affairs) to Me. When he (the worshipper) says: Thee do we worship and of Thee do we ask help, He (Allah) says: This is between Me and My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks for. Then, when he (the worshipper) says: Guide us to the straight path, the path of those to whom Thou hast been Gracious -- not of those who have incurred Thy displeasure, nor of those who have gone astray, He (Allah) says: This is for My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks for.

[Ref: Muslim 4: 395]

31. While visiting the sick, and dua made by the sick

Umm Salamah narrated that the Prophet (SAW) said: 'When you visit the sick, or the dead then say good, because the angels say 'Ameen' to whatever you say

[Ref: Muslim #2126]

Ali (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) said: 'When a Muslim visits his sick Muslim brother in the morning, seventy thousand angels make dua for his forgiveness till the evening. And when he visits him in the evening, seventy thousand angels make dua for his forgiveness till the morning, and he will be granted a garden for it in Jannah.'

[Ref: Al-Tirmidhi, abu Dawud]

32. While Prostrating (In Sujood)

Abu Hurairah (RadhiAllaahu Anhu) narrates the Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam) said, “A worshipper becomes close to Allaah when he is prostrating hence make dua abundantly at such a time.”

[Ref: Saheeh Muslim, Abu Dawood (no.875), Nasaa’ee no.1173, Baihaqee, Abu Awaanah and Musnad Ahmad. Refer to Saheeh Sunan Abee Dawood 1/166, Irwaa ul-Ghaleel no.456 and Saheeh al-Jaam’e 1/259 no.1175 and Saheeh at-Targheeb no.387]

Similarly it is narrated by Ibn Abbaas (RadhiAllaahu Anhu)h the Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam) said, “As for the prostration, then one should supplicate fervently, as it is possible it may be accepted.”

[Ref: Saheeh Muslim, Abu Dawood, Nasaa’ee, Ibn Maajah refer to Saheeh al-Jaam’e 1/536]

33. After The Obligatory Prayers And At The Time of Suhoor

Abu Umaamah (RadhiAllaahu Anhu) narrates the Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam) was asked which dua is readily accepted? So he the Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam) said, “The dua during the last part of the night and the dua after the obligatory prayers.”

[Ref: Shaikh al-Albaanee said Hasan in Saheeh Tirmidhee, Tirmidhee no.3499, Sunan Tirmidhee with Tuhfa 9/331, Saheeh Targheeb no.1648 and Mishkaat no.1231]

The suhoor falls in the last part of the night and therefore it is included in this period. It is also a sign of the believers and those who have taqwaa to seek forgiveness in their duas.

Allaah says,

“They used to sleep but little of the night, And in the hours before dawn they would ask forgiveness,” (Soorah adh-Dhaariyaat 51:17-18)

And

The patient, the true, the obedient, those who spend [in the way of Allah ], and those who seek forgiveness before dawn.” (Soorah Ale-Imraan 3:17

34. On the Night of Jumu'ah (Friday)

Alee (RadhiAllaahu Anhu) narrates the Messenger of Allaah (Sallalahu Alayhee Wasallam) said, “There is a period on the night of jumu’ah (ie Thursday evening.) in which a dua is accepted.”

[Ref: Sunan Tirmidhee cited from Saheeh al-Adhkaar pg.54]

35. ON HEARING THE CROWING OF A ROOSTER

The prophet (s.a.w) said " When you hear the crowing of a rooster, ask Allaah of His bounty, for he has seen an angel.” [Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 2304; Muslim, 2729.]

36. MAKING DU`A ON WEDNESDAY BETWEEN DHUHR AND `ASR

“Jabir Ibn ‘Abdullah (may Allâah be pleased with him) said, “ The Messenger of Allâah(peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated to Allâah in this Masjid (Masjid Al-Fath) on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. His dua was answered on Wednesday between the prayers of Dhuhr and Asr. Jabir(may Allâah be pleased with him)said,” There wasn’t anything that was crucially important for me to have solved, except I called on Allâah during that hour of the day between Dhuhr and Asr knowing He would answer.

Graded Hasan by Shaykh Al-Albani(May Allâah have mercy upon him) in Saheeh Adab Al-Mufrad.

Shaykh Al-Albani(may Allâah shower him with mercy) commented on this saying
“His dua was answered on Wednesday between the prayers of Dhuhr and Asr” .

[Partial] : If this companion wouldn’t have narrated to us that the prophet(peace and blessings be upon him)made Dua to Allâah during this hour we wouldn’t have known. The person present witnesses what the absent person doesn’t. This ahadeeth has significant meaning; since Jabir narrated the information when exactly his dua was answered. And this shows that the Dua for the Messenger(peace and blessings be upon him)was answered at that hour during Wednesday. Consequently Jabir began to do that same thing he saw Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) do on Wednesday between Dhuhr and Asr. End of Quote from the book.

37. SUPPLICATING USING SOME DUA'AS PRESCRIBED BY THE PROPHET (s.a.w)

When saying the du’aa’, “Laa ilaaha illa anta, subhaanaka, inni kuntu min al-zaalimeen ([none has the right to be worshipped but You (O Allaah)], Glorified (and Exalted) be You [above all that (evil) they associate with You]! Truly, I have been of the wrongdoers – cf al-Anbiya’ 21:87]).” It was narrated in a saheeh hadeeth that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The prayer of Dhu’l-Noon (Yoonus) which he said when he was in the belly of the whale: ‘Laa ilaaha illa anta, subhaanaka, inni kuntu min al-zaalimeen ([none has the right to be worshipped but You (O Allaah)], Glorified (and Exalted) be You [above all that (evil) they associate with You]! Truly, I have been of the wrongdoers.’ No Muslim recites this du’aa’ concerning any matter but Allaah will answer him.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi and classed as saheeh in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 3383.

In his commentary on the passage (interpretation of the meaning):

“And (remember) Dhun‑Noon (Jonah), when he went off in anger, and imagined that We shall not punish him (i.e. the calamities which had befallen him)! But he cried through the darkness (saying): Laa ilaaha illa Anta [none has the right to be worshipped but You (O Allaah)], Glorified (and Exalted) be You [above all that (evil) they associate with You]! Truly, I have been of the wrongdoers.”

88. So We answered his call, and delivered him from the distress. And thus We do deliver the believers (who believe in the Oneness of Allaah, abstain from evil and work righteousness)”

[al-Anbiya’ 21:87-88]

Al-Qurtubi said:  In this verse, Allaah stipulates that whoever calls upon Him, He will answer him as He answered and saved Dhu’l-Noon (Yoonus). This is what is meant by the words “And thus We do deliver the believers”.

[Al-Jaami’ li Ahkaam il-Qur’aan, 11/334.]

If a calamity befalls him and he says, Inna Lillaahi wa inna ilayhi raaji’oon, Allaahumma ujurni fi museebati w'ukhluf li khayran minha (Truly, to Allaah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return; O Allaah, reward me in this calamity and compensate me with something better than it). It was narrated by Muslim in his Saheeh (918) that Umm Salamah said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say: “There is no calamity that befalls one of the Muslims and he responds by saying ‘Innaa Lillaahi wa innaa ilahi raaji'oon, Allaahumma ujurni fi museebati w'ukhluf li khayran minha (Truly, to Allaah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return; O Allaah, reward me in this calamity and compensate me with something better than it),’ but Allaah will compensate him with something better than it.
